Who will pay my medical bills?
Many doctors will treat you without billing you directly if they know you are filing an insurance claim or personal injury lawsuit. Instead, they will have a lien on your recovery and take their fees out of the settlement your attorney gets for you. Your lawyer can put you in touch with a doctor who works on a lien basis or work with your own physician through a lien arrangement. For other bills, such as hospital bills, you may have to pay whatever your health insurance doesn’t cover (deductibles, co-pays), and then later be reimbursed at the conclusion of the case. Talk to your lawyer if you don’t think you can afford your medical care.
