California Department of Motor Vehicles – Go here to request your driver record online, locate DMV driver safety offices, learn about vehicle insurance information and requirements, obtain a salvage certificate or reregister a salvage vehicle.

California Department of Transportation – Online services here include reporting a pothole or submitting a maintenance request, reporting a traffic problem or submitting a claim to personal property damage caused by Caltrans.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration – This arm of the United States Department of Transportation has information on vehicle ratings, safety recalls, risky driving, road safety and more.

Distraction.gov – This NHTSA website is dedicated to raising awareness about distracted driving such as handheld use of a cellphone while driving and texting while driving.

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration – FMCSA is responsible for preventing commercial motor vehicle-related fatalities and injuries by adopting safety regulations for tractor-trailers and maximum hours of service for truck drivers. Division of Workers’ Compensation – The DWC website has information geared for the injured worker. Other helpful sites regarding workplace accidents and worker safety include the  California Department of Industrial Relations, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and Cal/OSHA.

California Criminal Law Resources

Superior Court of Los Angeles County – This page on the court’s website contains helpful information if you are appearing in court in LA County on a misdemeanor, felony or infraction. You’ll find basic information here about appearing in court, including what to bring with you and what you can expect.

What Should I Know if I am Arrested? – This informative pamphlet from the State Bar of California may help you understand your rights, including your right to remain silent and your right to an attorney, as well as information related to bail, arraignments, preliminary hearings, searches and more.

Bail Schedules – This webpage provides information on how much bail may be required in a particular misdemeanor or felony case. Keep in mind that cash bail in California will be a thing of the past starting October 2019, thanks to legislation signed by the Governor in 2018.

California Commercial Cannabis Resources

California Cannabis Portal – This portal is meant to be your one-stop resource for all things related to the cannabis industry in California. Visit frequently for regular updates on the latest guidelines, regulations and licensing application procedures.

Bureau of Cannabis Control – This agency approves (or denies, renews, or revokes) licenses for retailers, distributors, microbusinesses, testing laboratories and temporary cannabis events.

Manufactured Cannabis Safety Branch  – This division of the California Department of Public Health is responsible for regulating all commercial cannabis manufacturing in California, including ensuring safe and sanitary workplaces, wholesome manufacturing practices, proper packaging and labeling and more. See their resources for licensees for information on packaging and labeling, license application, track and trace, tax guidelines and more.

CalCannabis Cultivation – This licensing division of the California Department of Food and Agriculture licenses commercial cannabis cultivators. You’ll find a wealth of information here, including dozens of regulatory documents, although you may just want to call a cannabis lawyer who is already familiar with this information and can help you understand what you need to know.

Cannabizfile – The California Secretary of State provides this online portal for all things related to business filings for cannabis-related businesses. Here you can search for business records, register a trademark or service mark, register or update your business, or simply learn more about the steps involved in starting a cannabis business.
